Promoting ministry amongst children is given a top priority in the Diocese. To this end, the role of Children's Ministry Coordinator has been established in the Diocese. The aim of the position is to resource, educate, support, and nurture people in parishes and ministry units whose ministry is with children and families. Such people may be working as volunteers or in paid positions.
The Coordinator is expected to establish and maintain a database of parishes who are actively involved with children's ministry, and then to network and link them to each other. Links with ecumenical and interdenominational structures that offer support to those engaged in ministry with children are also sought and developed.
Resourcing people in children's ministry is given a high priority. A variety of teaching material is developed and made freely available. A one-on-one consultancy approach to parishes is also offered to assist them in developing their children's ministry. Parishes that employ Children's
Workers are offered advice, guidance and support.
Regular opportunities for training are also organised at both local and regional levels. The importance of establishing safe practises when working with children is highlighted and discussed at such events.
Also, the Coordinator is an advocate and champion for children's ministry at all decision making levels in the Diocese and at national level.
