The Parish of Wellington South serves the wonderfully colourful and multicultural inner Wellington suburbs of Newtown and Berhampore. Within our boundaries we have a dozen or more social housing estates, some of which are home to parishioners. Many artists and musicians choose to live in our neighbourhood alongside middle class families and a number of sizeable migrant communities. We have three schools within the parish and many early childhood centres. The St Thomas' Church family has two services on a Sunday morning: a traditional Eucharist at 8.30am at St Thomas' Chapel at 200 Riddiford Street, followed by a more relaxed, family-oriented service with a children's programme at 10.30am, which is held at Newtown School Hall in Mein Street. This second service is proceeded by a community breakfast at Newtown School Hall from 9.30am to 10.00am, to which all are welcome. Our congregations mirror the colour and diversity of the wider parish neighbourhood. We offer a particular welcome to those who live with mental illness, but also have parishioners with experience of addiction, homelessness, unemployment and imprisonment. Our parish is also home to a number of intentional Christian communities including two Urban Vision teams.
