All Christians are called to build up God's church in the world and to make a difference in the communities in which they live and work. Some Christians are called to ordination. There are two different styles of ordained ministry – stipendary ministry and self-supporting ministry. Training for ordained ministry is guided by the Archdeacon for Ministry Development. A tailored programme is designed which involves theological education and a range of ministry formation experiences. Tertiary study can be completed through a residential degree course at St John's Theological College in Auckland, or through a distance education programme from one of various educational institutions around the country. Diocesan training programmes and local practical study courses such as EFM (Education For Ministry) are also available to the trainee.
