Tumeke Taita Team Triumphs at Te Aute College

Update: 21 March 13

In early March the Tumeke Taita Touch team travelled to play Te Aute Maori Boys College in Hawkes Bay. The game was organised at the request of the coach Hepa Pene who asked if the team could play against an Anglican school as a way of thanking the Diocese for their support of the team. The team played well and provided great entertainment for Te Aute parents and TTT supporters who were also present.
The team were seen off by Reverend Charles Noanoa who conveyed a special message from the team's Patron Bishop Justin. The game, held on the annual Te Aute gala day, proved to be a highlight. Post the game, all the boys were joined by Olympic Ambassador Emily Naylor, Co-Captain of the Black Sticks, who spoke of her Olympic experiences and how to cope with the highs and lows of winning and losing on the world stage.

The Tumeke Taita boys also had the opportunity to experience a snapshot of life in a Maori boarding school and were treated a great display of kapa haka during the closing ceremony as well as healthy "Boil –up" to complete the day. The coach and school are hoping to make this an annual event.
