Update: 30 June 2011
This year’s national Back to Church Sunday has been cancelled. Part of the reason is that Claire Onslow, the National Co-ordinator of BTCS lives in Christchurch and has been hugely affected by the earthquake.
Anyway, PLEASE NOTE that this does not mean that you can’t do a BTCS initiative in your Parish.
Michael Harvey, the founder of BTCS UK, is keen to work with those churches who are still interested in holding their own local BTCS events. If any of you would like Michael’s help in the lead up to your Parish event on Sunday 11 September, or any other dates that you have chosen, please email Danny Te Hiko on email
and he will pass your details on to Michael.
In the meantime, Danny will also look at some ideas that might help Parishes promote their own BTCS if they wish to push ahead – please get in touch with Danny to arrange details. Danny believes that BTCS is not a one-off/one Sunday annual initiative, and that the key principles of BTCS concerning welcoming and hospitality need to be firmly ingrained in the DNA of a church's cultural practices surrounding incorporation and discipling. Some Parishes have already asked Danny to visit to discuss these principles further with their leadership teams so he is very happy to support any Parishes who wish to promote the initiative whether it is in September or any other time of the year.
Please contact Danny on either telephone 04 471 8593 or email
if you would like him to visit your Parish.
